A guide to Mice care

A guide to Mice care

The household mouse has been kept as a pet for centuries.

Mice are curious and interesting pets that are active at various times of the day. Although they are fragile, well-cared mice typically live for one to three years.

The albino (white) mice are the most common type found in pet stores, but you can also find a fancy mouse in a wide variety of coat colors and types.

Your Mice Diet

Do not feed your mice cabbage, chocolate, corn, candy, junk food, peanuts, uncooked beans, or onions.

A complete quality dry mix that provides vital nutrients should form the basis of your mouse’s diet. Whatever you choose, ensure it has a mixture of grains, seeds, pulses, and a meat source such as dried mealworms. You could also give your mice a treat once in a while.

A water bottle with a drinking tube that attaches to the side of the cage is the best way to feed your mice fresh and clean water.

To avoid your mice becoming obese and bored, scatter their daily allowance around the enclosure rather than feeding in a bowl.

Your Mice Home

If you are planning to raise a handful of mice, do not house males and females together. The male mice breed quickly with large litters.

If however, you plan to keep several males together, be certain that you have provided enough room for them.

A bored mouse tends to become obese or stubborn. Create an environment where your mice can eat, sleep and play. This can be done by including Mice toys in their home. You can provide small boxes that your mice can hide in and little cardboard tubes for your mice to chew and run through. You can also provide wheels for them to run on.

General Care of your Mice

  1. Clean your mice cage once a week, replace dirty bedding, and wipe down the rest of the cage.
  2. Remove feces, uneaten food, and polluted areas of bedding from your pets’ cage every day.
  3. Provide uncolored, untreated pieces of wood, dog biscuits, or safe chew toys for it
  4. If you need to catch your mice quickly, grasp it at the base of the tail and lift him as you cup him in your hand.

Importance of Mice Treats

Did you know it's important to treat your mice to treats once in a while because it could help train and treat it?

To achieve this;

  1.  Start by feeding your mice treats.
  2. Once they start receiving treats, gently pick them up and speak softly to them so they get used to your voice.
  3. Gradually increase these sessions as your pet used to being handled.
  4. Once your mice are hand-tamed, you can let them out of the cage for supervised exercise every day.

In summary, these are the following things you should do to keep your mice happy.

  1. Provide Them with Companions
  2.  Give Them a Place or Room of Their Own to Enjoy
  3. Offer Them Foods and Treats
  4. Offer them toys.
  5.  Allow Them to have adequate Exercise.
